No Tie... Yay or Nay?

We could not get the cameras to work right on the weather deck tonight at 10:00, so I had to give the weather forecast indoors. I did not have a dress shirt and tie on, but does that matter? Does it bother the viewer if I do not have a tie and jacket on when I am indoors? I never thought about the cameras screwing up, so I did not bring a backup wardrobe... Should I next time or is it no big deal??? Do news "folks" always need a jacket and tie? You tell me in the comments section.... You can post anonymously if you want. PS- My boss always wants a jacket on, if I am at the news desk!

For those of you that are not from NE Arkansas, I often give the forecast from the weather deck, outside of the station... We are located in the country and I love it! We have had deer, racoons, foxes, and even a bobcat around the deck! Here's a picture from the 5:00 news. The sun was BRIGHT today!

Take care,
Ryan

Ryan,
It makes you look like a normal person in the community that you serve. For me I like that, it helps people to relate. By the way thanks for the outstanding job you do!

Hey Vaughan, its Johnson. I think that it looked just fine with you bein in the center. we dont utilize the center enough and having you in there lookin casual i thought from a directors stand point looked just fine.

Hey Ryan. Your boss must be from the 'old school' and while there is nothing wrong with that, he needs to know that professionalism is not in what you wear. It is what you know and how you present it. It's called business casual Mr. Forentberry. You should try it sometime. :)

It's nice to see people take their jobs serious and dress up but its also nice to see people dress like they normally would. I like the casual dress and as long as you do a good job and give the viewers the weather forecast its okay by me. It's nice to have someone be part of the communinty and be normal. I think you're doing an excellent job and I like that you give viewers a chance to comment and check out your blog. Keep up the good work.

I don't mind the casual look but I have to admit when you don't wear shoes on the weather deck it's kind of distracting.

Hey, Ryan, as a viewer, I think the casual shirt is fine for the weather desk inside as well as the weather deck. Many times when y'all are called in for severe weather you are in casual clothes, so what's the difference? As long as you can give the weather and forecast, it's fine with me.

I don't think it should matter what you wear. I personally like the casual dress. We're just a small town. Most of us don't care a whole lot about keeping up appearances. I believe it makes you more in touch with the public you serve. You look like they look. Keep those stuffy suits and choking neck ties on their hangers and save them for weddings and funerals!
