Weird Weather

We've been playing catch up with this storm system all day. First, the precipitation started reaching the ground earlier than expected in Southern Missouri and they iced up enough to let some schools out. Then, more precipitation came in and Jonesboro's temperature tanked, so now we have ice on the elevated surfaces in the city. That's why the Winter Storm Warning has been extended into Jonesboro. The above images show the ice adding up in some places. The first picture is from Heidi Farrar in Izard County and the second picture is from Andrew Sloan in Lawrence County.

And then... We had severe weather, too! The city of Mountain View had an inch of hail accumulate in the city while they had freezing rain falling!!! It was a severe freezing thunderstorm. That's a first for me. This was especially bad because the hail fell on the damage path of the deadly EF4 tornado.

The second storm that started moving in looked really nasty! Radar showed an impressive hail signature at one point and it appeared that some very large hail was falling from the storm. I'll have to check all of the storm reports in the morning. Here's a look at the storm when it was in Clinton, AR... another city that was hit by the deadly EF4 less than a week ago. This storm passed South of the damage path in Region 8.
It's now 11:30 PM and I am babysitting the weather. There is a weather station in Southern Greene County and it is now above freezing. Other areas have also started going up, including the Jonesboro airport and Walnut Ridge. I'm still thinking that most of us will go above freezing soon. I sure hope so!

The temp reached 33 here at some point, but it's back down to 31 right now. There is ice on everything (a pretty good coating on the trees, in fact) but the road isn't bad, as far as I know. I hope it isn't, because I am driving a load of cupcakes down to Zion in a little while!

That's my first severe thunder-ice storm warning, too! =-O

Good Afternoon Ryan,
I must say this is some crazy weather we are having. Last night while we were under a Winter Storm Warning, it was raining, thundering, and lightening here in Caraway, AR. We got alot of rain from last night and today. As of now, at 3:35p.m., it is 30 degrees and we have light freezing rain. It is beginning to stick to the trees and everything else around here. The roads are in pretty good shape for now. I'm sure they will get slick once it gets dark. Take care my friend and have a great evening. Be safe coming and going home from work. May God Bless You and Yours.
