Severe Weather Stinks

I've never been so sick of severe weather in my life. It seems like we have it every week... Wait a minute, we do.... almost:

Anywho, we only had one negative email tonight. It was first posted on my blog and then it was sent to my email. I had deleted it from the comments section of my blog, but I should have posted it. Everyone has a right to there own opinion, so here you go:
Get off tv. The storm is over in our area. You guys are the most overzealous, nerdy bunch I've ever seen. Let Memphis and Little Rock handle their region. Throw them a bone.

Right now I want to watch the game pinhead.

Amy (last name removed)
I'm an overzealous, nerdy pinhead! LOL
Have a great weekend!
Ryan

Well if being more concerned for public safety than a game makes you a overzealous nerd then hey i guess theres alot of us nerds around.

Ouch, you "overzealous, nerdy pinhead"
You cant please everyone Ryan, but people like that are the first to complain when you are not standing in front of that camera when severe weather is here. I guess you can mark that up to viewer moment #268973. Oh and Great Job Today.

Well since she seems to take the time to read your blog maybe she should take the time to read all of the comments for us who rely on the great job you do. Have people never heard of just turning the channel?? That doesn't take near as much time as sending an email!? And that's my 2 cents. Some people you just can't make happy!

Thank goodness for the overzealous, nerdy pinheads at K8 that are keeping us safe. I agree everyone has a right to their opinion, but they should state it without calling names. Unfortunately you can't please everyone all the time.

Hmmmmmm, I'd have to say I'd rather watch a bunch of overzealous, nerdy pinheads covering things that really matter than overhyped, overpaid men running up and down a court throwing a ball through a hoop in order to have bragging rights!

There are a few people out here who have loved ones in areas besides Region 8 that were being covered & I would imagine that there are a few more people besides myself who appreciates the wide coverage. Keep up the good work!

Good Morning Ryan,
I just want to say a BIG "THANK YOU" again for you, Sarah, and Chris for all of the hard work yall do covering the Severe Weather. I am so "THANKFUL" that me and my Family can count on the KAIT8 Storm Team when conditions are Severe. Me and my husband were watching yesterday evening when you told everyone in Caraway to get in their Tornado Safe Place. We don't have a storm cellar here where we live, but our neighbor does, and we went to her Storm Cellar. We did get some Pea Size Hail here in Caraway for just a minute or so, but nothing too bad. We also got alot of heavy rains as well. Right after you told everyone in Caraway to take cover, they sounded the Tornado Sirens here in Caraway. Words from me cannot express just how much I do appreciate all 3 of you being on the air and letting everyone know about the severe weather and when they need to take cover. Again, a BIG "THANK YOU" to you, Sarah, and Chris for keeping us all informed. Like you said, everyone has their own opinions, but gee whiz, Amy needs to understand the situation whether there is a game on or not. I do believe SAVING LIVES comes before any game or any show being on t.v. Now, that is my opinion there. Take care my friend and have a great day. I hope you all get some much needed rest. May God Bless You and Yours and "HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY" to your beautiful wife.

I'm proud of ryan one of the only weather men I have seen that actually care to post and keep us updated through servere weather. Ryan don't listen to her... u rock. keep on doing what ur doing!

Well, we all KNOW you're only on television so many hours because you WANT to be!! Give me a break! Do people not realize you would much rather being doing something else with your family than be up so late each time storms roll into our
region? I had been feeling like storms have been here about every week, and your blog just confirmed it. I, too, wanted to watch the game, but I also know you wouldn't be on the air unless it was absolutely necessary! I think you all do a great job at KAIT 8. Thanks for helping keep us all safe, and for dealing with all the negative comments you have to when you make the call to stay on the air during a popular television show.

Everyone has a right to their own opinion, but if Amy wants her opinion to be heard, she should say it in a form that is intelligent and respectful. We have this technology today to save lives. In my opinion, using this technology is much more important than a ball game, a dancing show, or even my favorite law show. Keep up the good work.

Oh my goodness, I cannot believe that people would complain about you staying on air to provide us with weather coverage. Was it not just last month that the news reporter from Blytheville complained because you went off air too soon??? That just goes to prove that you can't please everyone!!!!

Keep up the good work, you all do such a wonderful job!!

All I have to say to Ms. Amy Winters is to go buy her a satelite dish and watch game while she is in a funnel cloud like on Wizard of Oz... lol.... But on a lighter note... A big Thank You to Ryan, Sarah, and Chris for doing such a great job....We all love what you do for us and our families. Keep up the great work guys.

Also we are forgetting to mention the others that are staying involved with the severe weather times. Will Carter does a great job chasing the storms in the Storm Tracker to report to us what is out there and where, also there is Keith Boles, Rebecca Smith, Brandi Hodges, and all the Kait 8 team for great severe weather coverage that helps keep all of our families safe. This station has the best severe weather coverage I have ever seen. We also need to thank the staff at Triple FM for the combined coverage with Kait 8 to bring us the best weather coverage possible... A deep and sincere Thank You for you all.

Thank you for giving us advance warning yesterday. We do not have a tornado shelter, but the warning gave me time to get my kids and pets to the safest spot we have.
I think watching storms developing in western or southwestern counties is helpful for us to start planning and getting the kids and pets settled in the safe place.
Yes, I wanted to see the game also, but staying alive was more important. I wonder if perhaps the station could rebroadcast the game later, after the emergency is over?
BTW, a couple weeks ago, I was watching your storm coverage and was able to call a friend who was coming home through western TN with a bus full of schoolkids, but they had no idea they were driving right into that nest of tornadoes moving from eastern Arkansas into TN. The phone warning that came from watching you allowed them to stay in a location away from the path of tornadoes, and they arrived home safely later that evening.

Thank you for keepng me safe last night Ryan. I admire your knowledge of severe weather. I live right off of Lawson Road, and judging the radar, it could have really gotten nasty in southern Jonesboro yesterday evening. Thanks again for all of the coverage, and don't listen to stupid people telling you to get off the air. They obviously don't care about anyone but themselves. Have a good one!

I wish Amy Winters had left her blogger address if she has one.

It continues to astound me -- no, wait a second, IT ENRAGES ME -- how completely selfish and petty people can be, even after knowing of the tragedy that has occurred in just this viewing area alone this year. I mean, this is assuming that Amy has maybe heard something about the loss of life and catastrophic damage that has occurred here in Arkansas this year. If not, Amy, go ahead and Google "tornados in Arkansas" and prepare to be humbled.

GEEEZ!!! If our pinheaded, nerdy friends at KAIT -- oh wait, I forgot OVERZEALOUS! -- had chosen to run the scheduled Super Tuesday election programming on Feb. 5th, HOW MANY PEOPLE WOULD HAVE DIED in Stone, Izard and Sharp Counties? I don't want to know the answer, thanks. ... Man, I bet the political die-hards in Region-8 were mad that night! Some of them surely collapsed in a heap, especially when the damage reports started to come in and they realized that their special time with the talking heads and spinmeisters was doomed.

Oh, and Ryan, my pinheaded friend, you forgot that the week before February 5th, we had that major wind storm and tornado watch. Some nerd you are.

Yes, everyone has a right to there own opinion. But some people should keep it to themselves. I for one feel very fortunate that we have such a wonderful Weather Team in our local area. I'm from Highland and have lots of family and loved ones there. And if it hadn't been for you guys things would have been alot worse. I feel very lucky to have you guys on our side. And as far as I'm concerned you can interupt any T.V. show you want. So keep up the good work Ryan, Chris, and Sara. We love you and Thank You.

Where has Chris been? Don't get me wrong I like Sara, but I'm just used to the morning crew and seeing Chris. Is he going to be back on GMR8?

Anonymous said...

I'm very THANKFUL of your coverage not only last night, but every time there is severe weather. Thank you for staying on the air when there is a tornado warning. Personally, if a tornado is in the area, I want to know where it is and what it is doing all of the time!

Ryan,

I was watching some of your streaming coverage from up here in Rockford. You and your team once again handled a dangerous situation in a calm and professional manner. And to your viewers who understand that covering up a show to save lives is important, thanks! We broadcast folk appreciate that.

You all REALLY need a breather from this severe weather stuff, though!

Amy seems to be one of those people in society that are of the "me" group. They are only concerned with themselves. I am very thankful you guys were on last night. We live over in the northeastern part of the state by the river and I love how you give us as much coverage as the one's that get the coverage over in the western part of the viewing area. I know it makes for a very long day for you guys but, unlike Amy, you genuinly care for others. A million thanks!!!!

It amazes me that some people do not appreciate the GREAT job you guys do at keeping us safe and giving us an advanced warning. How could anyone look at all the destruction and loss of life lately from tornadoes lately and not want to give you all a big shout out? If it weren't for the "overzealous, nerdy pinhead" we would probably had alot more loss of life and injuries from the weather in Region8 lately. What a great thing to be critized for.

I Cannot Believe that this post has gotten this many comment responses, This is one of if not the most comments I have saw on one of your blog posts..Also I want to send out my gratitude and thanks to all of you also, My brother was on a school trip with Paragould School District and they were at the Hollywood Malco on Parker Road that evening..I was talking and texting him stuff that was going on on air at the time for him to relay there, As the sirens went off they got into tornado safe spots in the theatre. Had I not told them what was going on, They'd never known anything was happening around them..until the sirens went off and it hit..They'd left and probably been on a bus right in the middle of it all.. So Once again, Thanks For Another Great Job Well Done!! Also, Going back to the comment, "Let Little Rock And Memphis Cover Their Areas, Throw Them A Bone" Obviously She's either in the Little Rock Or Memphis Districts, That being said, Why try to watch the game on KAIT, Watch it on KATV or WPTY...If they're covering the storm also, Well One word "TOUGH" Deal With it, Lives Are MUCH more important whether it be in Region 8or not! As Bad as the weather's been this year, It's better to be on early then wait to late, Once again, To all, Great Job WELL DONE ONCE AGAIN!!

I don't have a problem with the "wall-to-wall" weather that you guys do every time a cloud comes up, but why on all three channels? There are two solutions, neither perfect for every viewer. One, when you go wall-to-wall, lift the restriction on Channel 7 out of Little Rock and let them show regular programming while you do weather. Those of us who don't have to be reminded every second of every minute that there are storms in the area, we can watch regular programming on Channel 7. Second, you can leave one of your three stations to regular programming. As a practical matter, that would need to be the HD channnel which leaves a lot of people out, but if you have cable, you can still watch the regular programming. I thing the wall-to-wall weather is overused. Multiple break-ins to regular programming would be more effective. We don't need multiple views of the same storm over and over. Just give us the facts that a storm in coming and to take cover. The icons on the screen are sufficient for anyone who can read.

Well pinhead,
I personally think that you guys do a wonderful job at the station! You keep region8 informed and up to date on all the severe weather coming our way. As for the storms you track outside of region8, well some of us have family in those areas and like to know what is going on around us! I am petrified of storms, Ryan, (as you know well!) and I think that you do a wonderful job and I am glued to the station everytime there is a dark cloud! If Ms Amy doesn't like it, tell her to get DISH network - they don't have local weather for our area! Thanks for all that you do.

8:35 AM Anonymous, You must be in Paragould since that's the only place channel 7 is not shown 24/7.. I have to tell you although I have satellite now, Back when I had Paragould Cable, I also threw a fit about this and come to find out, It was the cable company, NOT KAIT!!! PLWC apparently has an agreement with either the FCC or KAIT or KATV that they show the regular programming on "LOCAL MARKET CHANNELS FIRST" hence being KAIT instead of KATV regardless of what they are showing, according to the response I got from the company here..I've inquired about this many many times as well, to both, KAIT, KATV, and WPTY, as well as the FCC and that is what I got each and every time.. It's due to the DMA(Designated Market Area)therefore, KAIT showing wthr coverage and KATV having QVC/HSN on it at the same time is PLWC, NOT KAIT...They have no control over KATV whatsoever...Not to be rude but just so that you know...Not KAIT or KATV, it's PLWC..Complain To Them, I have been every since they took KTHV off about five years ago!

Ryan said...

Actually, KATV is not shown in Jonesboro either...unless it is newscast time.

Ryan said...

Also.... from my undestanding, THV wanted to CHARGE Paragould Cable to show their station. That's nuts... I would do the same thing if I were Paragould Cable.

Anonymous said...

I think this is like the arguement about showing KAIT on DISH or Direct-TV. You call KAIT about it and they say it's the satellite provider and you call the satellite provider and they say it's KAIT. I'll call Suddenlink tomorrow and ask them who makes that call. I suspect that KAIT would really be upset if KATV broadcast in their "protected" area without their permission. If it's KAIT's decision (and I suspect it is), then all I have said is that regular programing should be shown on KATV when KAIT goes to full weather. That gives us a choice. I agree with you Ryan that TV stations shouldn't have to pay for space on cable. But, it is my understanding that the reason KAIT is not on DISH or Direct-TV is that they want to charge for their signal and DISH and Direct refuse to pay. Sounds like something of a double standard.

Ryan said...

I'm not sure about the whole Dish/Direct TV thing... That's out of my league!

By the way, KATV is usually on when we are on...

Anonymous said...

Yeah, I rememnber that, You're right, They DID want to charge them MORE than the other stations...Like .22 cents per customer more than the other stations..So they dropped it, They thought about getting the other CBS station out of Cape but Guess they decided against it..As far as the dish/direct thing, That's beyond me! That's why I own an HDTV and antenna.. LOL

Vonavie said...

OK, I liked this post better before it got into cable talk. 'Cause I'm in the sticks and my cable company, well I don't want to be whine so I'll stop there...

Anyway, Ryan and all at KAIT8. You do a great job. Ditto many of the positive comments before mine. To quote one, "You Rock".

i am so grateful to have a weather team that takes thier time to keep all of region 8 safe. i have to small children and my husband works nights so i am here all alone when most of the storms go through. i feel safer with yall on the tv than anything else that is on. my son is five and is absolutly amased by the computer stuff yall have. he already knows what every color means on the screen. he knows where he lives on the map from all the time yall stay on. he has learned alot about the weather from yall. i say thank you for keeping us safe and educating us in the process.
