I Feel Weird....

I'm starting to freak myself out I think. I was at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center today and I took my blood pressure on their machine in the lobby. For some reason, it was high. I usually have normal blood pressure, but today it was quite high.

Ever since I took my blood pressure, I'm jittery. I'm not sure if it is because my blood pressure is high or if I'm just freaking out because I "found out" it was high.

Either way... I can feel my hear pounding in my chest.

Has anyone else scared themselves like this before? Gee Whiz.

OK, this is advice from a medical professional. You need to calm down and find someone with a real blood pressure cuff and a stethoscope. Most of those machines read higher than what your blood pressure actually is, if with a real blood pressure cuff it is still high and you are having symptoms, go see a DOCTOR.

I agree with the above comment. Except, regardless if you are having symptoms or not, and your blood pressure is high after having it checked with a cuff and stethoscope, be sure to get it checked out!

I agree with the first 2 comments as well. Also, I don't know exactly what time of day it was you checked your BP, but had you eaten yet? It could be, since you were jittery, that you may have Diabetes-Type 2. Might want to check into that as well when you go to the Doctor and have your BP checked. Neither one is nothing to play around with and if you do, you need to get the help you need soon.
I see the NWS got the Temperature Gage fixed finally.

Agree, about having cked professionally but once long ago we had a friend that came down with stomache cancer,we were in our 20`s .
Inside of 2/3 weeks hubby convinced he too had the symptoms, so went to doc. TG one I`d had all my life span. After hearing hubbys fears, he said: Did you just have a friend come down with stomache cancer, and he named the guy.
Hubby told him yea.... so doc cked him over and asked how many cups of coffee he drink per day...when hubby told him 20 plus, and named the many spicy foods he ate on continous basis, old doc said: Son, you do not have stomache cancer, but its a wonder you have a stomache at all with its intake.
Giggle, that was the end of symptoms........so yes, you can convince yourself of most anything if scare factor large enough....
Good Luck on your visit to doc for mental relief.

As someone who was diagnosed with high blood pressure at the age of 27, it is not something to take lightly. But as the first commenter said, those cuffs tend to not be right.

And yes, I know someone who can make himself so sick by thinking the worst of the littlest odd feeling.

I have had HBP snce I was 23. The machines tend to read mine 15-20 points higher than a person on a machine you get at wal-mart. Being scared, and thinking, or being worried about it too much can also raise your blood pressure. JMO I would "try" not to think about it or bother you, and have someone check it in the morning when you haven't ate, or been to work. As you know HBP can be dagerous if you let it. I control mine. Mine usally reads a avg. of 130/80. How high was yours ?
