A Little More Than Expected... Sorry.
For our southern counties, the forecast was spot on. However, the snow nudged a little farther north and Jonesboro and surrounding areas got a little more than what we expected. Sometimes we forecast ... and God laughs.
Pinpointing exactly where a blob of moisture will go is not easy. Add in that pinpointing how much snow that blob of moisture will produce is also not easy. What fell this morning is the equivalent of seeing about 0.05-0.10" of rain. Seriously, if we had been 50°, all of this would have been sprinkles. On average, 0.10" of rainfall is 1" of snow. This morning, those ratios are even higher. About 0.05" of rain is equal to 1" of snow. Pinpointing sprinkles is also tough, but sprinkles don't shut down schools and make roads a disaster. BIG snow storms are MUCH easier to forecast than what we had this morning. Thankfully, we were not alone. The National Weather Service also did not issue a Winter Weather Advisory this far north last night. If wrong, it's good to be wrong with others. ;)
We win some and we lose some. Thankfully, we win more than we lose. I apologize to those that thought we would only see a dusting and the kids would be in school. I hope everyone that stayed home today has a relaxing 3 day weekend. Be careful if you do go out. It's not a lot of snow, but it is slick.
For those that saw no snow on the ground, be happy. At least you are not sliding around this morning!
Ryan

Ryan, our weather team does an amazing job. You guys work so hard to keep us updated
On all types of weather. And sometimes it just doesn't happen like you think it will.
Keep up the good work and know that you Justin and Rachel are appreciated so very much.
Enjoy the day with your family and laugh with God!
You can only do your best with what you have. You guys are all great.
Ryan, you're awesome at your job!! Just like you said, God wanted us to have more snow than we expected. Be safe, and God Bless!
I know the kids are all happy with more snow than expected & a lot of parents will be enjoying another 3 day weekend! It's a win here in Jonesboro!!
I love the snow and right now it looks beautiful. Let's enjoy it! It really feels and looks like winter now! Here's to some hot coffee, tea or chocolate!!!!
You're an idiot.
We are extremely blessed with the best weather personal in my opinion. You all never fail us, all you can do is like you said predict what we may get. God is the person that is the only one that can be perfect. You all come pretty close, and for that we thank you!
And the only negative comment comes from someone who chooses to remain anonymous. Funny how that works. (Yeah, I know my comment shows anonymous, but I'm not degrading anyone!!!)
All is forgiven if you deliver me a frozen pizza. LOL Weather forecasting is a science and science is not exact.
I enjoyed waking my 9 year old up and telling her to get ready for school! As soon as she picked up her clothes I told her it was cancelled because it snowed! She looked out and was so excited!!! Even more than normal because she wasn't expecting it at all! :)
Just wish I had gotten bread and milk.
Ryan you are awesome. I love the snow and personally I'm glad we got it when you didn't think we would. It was an awesome surprise to wake up to snow.
