I would have stayed put to try to ensure the safety of my family. Even if they called the police, by the time the cops got there and we talked it out hopefully the storm would be passed. If not, surely the cop could reason with the manager that the weather was too bad to safely leave the restaurant.
The whole situation was unnecessary. Surely the employees could watch the registers, or the manager could lock them if that was his concern. I'm fairly certain if any of the people forced out into the storm had been hurt or killed, a good lawyer could prove liability on the part of McDonald's and probably the manager at the restaurant, too. He blew it, pure and simple, and people could have been injured or killed because of him.
This is the most craziest thing that I have ever heard. I am very afraid of storms and would not had left there without a fight.
I was once in a bank in Prattville and the sirens went off and the bank people made us leave as well. I was so mad. I said them, "but you are making us go out into the storm." They didn't care. They said they were going into the vault and we had to leave.
