Very windy!

We've had 18-wheelers blown off the roads, roofs ripped off, power out, and trees uprooted. None of the wind damage is from the thunderstorms. It's all from the winds behind the front. Check the news for some video of the damage...

So, in summary... thunderstorms, not so bad. Winds after the front, real bad!

Ryan, this is Clay from Nashville and I just wanted to share something with you concerning those in the St Louis area. If you look at radar snow is falling over an area in West Il. that is still under an old Tornado Watch. I find that interesting the NWS wouldn't go ahead and cancel the watch. To see what I am talking about I posted a picture of the radar at my blog linked at the bottom of this post or just visit KMOV's weather site. Do you think? Is it an old watch or there is still some instability over there?

It's a cancelled watch I believe, but it still shows the dynamics of the system. Impressive!

There apparently is a pretty big forest fire near Ft. Chaffee. The smoke from this was visible on radar for a while. It also probably accounts for the "ashy" look to the air when the front arrived! (from NWS Little Rock:)

STRONG WINDS AND FALLING HUMIDITY WITH A COLD FRONT SWEEPING ACROSS
THE AREA CONTINUES TO RESULT IN VERY HIGH TO EXTREME FIRE DANGER IN
MUCH OF SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA AND WEST-CENTRAL AND NORTHWEST ARKANSAS.

THE MOST EXTREME FIRE SPREAD POTENTIAL IS IN SEBASTIAN AND FRANKLIN
COUNTIES IN WEST CENTRAL ARKANSAS WHERE ANY FIRE WILL QUICKLY
SPREAD OUT OF CONTROL AND BE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO FIGHT.

A MAJOR FIRE CONTINUES NEAR FORT CHAFFEE IN SEBASTIAN COUNTY WHERE
A NUMBER OF STRUCTURES HAVE BEEN DESTROYED. SEVERAL FIRES HAVE
BEEN REPORTED IN FRANKLIN COUNTY.
