Going Green or Going Cheap?

We're making the switch! I'm not going green because I am scared of Global Warming. I'm going green to save money! Plus, the ceiling fan you see here is about 20 feet in the air. These fluorescent bulbs don't burn out for 9 years! So, this means I will not have to climb up on the ladder as often.

I'm still not sold on the lightning. It seems like it is bright enough, but it's still different. I can't really place my finger on it though. My wife says it's like sitting in a classroom. That's not a bad thing, but that's what it seems like....

Anyone else going green?
Ryan

PS- My official stance on Global Warming is "who really knows".....

We went to all fluorescent lighting about 1 year ago. I will say one thing for them I haven't changed a light bulb in over a year, when I use to change a bulb monthly. The light output is something you have to get use to, sometimes it seems as if it takes a few minutes to get to full output and at first they seem to almost light with a yellow tint.

By the way I didn't do this because of global warming I did it because they last longer and they say they are more cost effective. They do last longer but I cant tell if they are cheaper to operate or not.

We switched four years ago because we live in a realllly old house. Replacing the bulbs was an almost daily thing. Since we switched we haven't had to change a single one. I'm with Andrew, I can't tell any difference on our electric bill. One thing I did notice was the amount of heat that they put out is a lot less than the regular bulbs which really helps in the summer. And we didn't do it because of Global warming. Neither one of us is completely sold on the whole Global Warming idea. Haven't we been getting progressively warmer since the Ice Age? Who's to know that this isn't just normal progression?

We have florescent bulbs to save money, we replaced the bulbs in our bathroom 3 times in the last year. Figure it is either the wiring or bad bulbs. I like the way the bulb comes on low and eventually gets bright, and the heat from the bulb doesn't get HOT. I use to sweat when I had to use the bathroom, the heat from the bulbs (which was the globe kind) was pretty toasty! We are not tree huggers!

We also switched to fluorescent lighting about 6 months ago. I agree that it takes getting used to. At first, when you turn on the light, its dim.. and takes a few seconds to reach its full brightness. Thats not a problem to us though. I just like that you dont have to change them as often. I also figure it does save you a little electric over 8 or 9 years.
P.S These bulbs are on sale right now at Home Depot.. you get a 4 pack for under $7. Though, I guess if you stock up... they'll just be in your way for a few years.

I don't know about Global Warming, but why not go green? Anything that helps the environment is a good thing, in my opinion. We're slowly replacing our lightbulbs with the compact flourescents.

I try to use recycled printer paper and use old paper for scratch paper, etc. I'm sure I could do more, but every little bit helps, I imagine.

We did the same thing about a year and a half ago. It took a while for me to get used to them, but I don't mind them now. It just takes them a minute to warm up so the light can actually get bright enough. We switched to save money and electricity. I balked at first, but now I'm on board. Sometimes change is slow with me............

I switched to these bulbs about a year ago. The lighting is different, but I have gotten use to it. The best thing is I haven't changed lightbulbs since I put these in, so that in itself saves money in the long run.
