Let Me Catch You Up

I've been too darn busy to post lately, but I'm getting back into my routine! My oldest son went back to school today. Things are much quieter at work lately... and I'm even getting back to the gym every day! (That's my next stop this morning.)

Things seem to be going as smooth as they can across Region 8. I have been a little disappointed in how some of our residents have treated the power company guys. We have thousands and thousand of poles down across Region 8 and people are still getting upset about THEIR power being off. I can understand being frustrated, but some people are verbally attacking the utility workers. There's a lot more I could say about that, but I'll let it slide.

I HAVE been impressed with how we all come together to get things accomplished. People have had a warm place to stay, they have had hot meals, and most importantly... a lot of people are praying. We're going to get through this!

In other weather news, I'm a little concerned about the risk of severe weather next week. I'll post more about that later on. In Feb, it's never good to warm into the mid 60s.

You are right about being nce to the utility crews. The guy who reconnected our house was from Louisiana. He is up here for 2 weeks, away from his family and his comfortable home, so he can help us restore power. I wanted to HUG him! It is not their fault we have such a large and complicated mess, but they are indeed working long hours outside in the cold and wind to try to help. I think a smile and friendly wave would be much nicer to offer them.

I got a little steamed to begin with when they connected all of the neighbors and left us off, I knew there was a reason but I really didn't care at the moment, Everyone but us had it, I was ticked for awhile...But after realizing why they'd left it off and they'd explained why and that the pole had to be replaced I understood and calmed down...Meanwhile, There are folks from BBC Electric From Joplin Missouri Helping the folks here in paragould, I have noticed that they are working from like 7 to 10..North Little Rock is here as well and they're doing the same, Paragould on the other hand have been working from 8 to 5, 6, or 7, whenever...This looks bad on their part in my opinion.. The outside help doing more than the actual company that actually has the outages, I guess they have a reason though, I sent a letter to the president/owner of BBC Electric From Joplin and Also NLR, I have yet to hear back from NLR, but BBC said he appreciated the concern and comment, He says they always love to hear from folks, It says they are paying attention and notice, helps get the word out and said he appreciated everyone being patient and telling the thank you or a friendly wave now and then..So 12:50 Anonymous, You're right, A friendly wave now and then would be nice...Well I've ranted, Back To Work...

February storms....

We spent the evening exactly one year ago in the storm cellar! I'll always remember because today is my youngest daughter's birthday. We'll definitely never forget last year!

BBC guys from Joplin Rock! We were only without power for 5 days. We workd hard to make the best of the situation and not be like the Israelites complaing! We had a room with gas heat at my parents house and were able to stay there. They had a small generator so we had some light at night. Cooking and bathing were a different story and more difficult, but we had a roof over our heads and were safe. I thank God for these men not just from BBC, but all the other areas. They have sacrificed a lot, including their own comforts, being away from their families, and risking their lives because of people doing things dangerously and incorrectly with their generators. My 4 yr. old made a card for them to thank them and we were simply going to mail it to them later. Well, God opened a door that Saturday night and we were able to thank them in person and give it to them. Much to our surprise, after she gave them the card, they promptly went to our home and hooked us up instead of waiting until the next day as previously discussed. While we had absolutely no notion this would happen,(and it was NOT our intention) we were so touched and blessed by their actions. I am writing a letter to their supervisor, too, thanking them for all their hard works. I still do not have cable or internet, but who cares! My family is safe and we have power. Praise God!

when i first heard how some people were treating these men and women i was floored by it and honestly could not believe it. on the other hand i was lucky enough to not loose power so i guess beings i wasn't on that end i wasn't as cranky as those who had no power. however we had several friends and family members who were without and waiting patiently for their power to be restored. these electric companies came from several different states and probably could've said "no", but instead they came and lended a hand when we needed it. my blessings and prayers went out to each and every one of the utility workers for it is a high risk job esp. when people were messing with wiring within their home. everytime i saw a convoy of their trucks/equipment heading down the road i was reminded of how greatful we are and how much we take for granteed day in and day out. i'm sure the least we can do for them is show respect and appreciation.
