Devotional This Morning....

I received a great devotional this morning from Jeff Jones at First United Methodist Church in Jonesboro. Take a look:

I could have sworn I was wearing shorts a couple of days ago. I woke up this morning and it is freezing rain outside. If only it were like I thought it was as a child...I thought the weather man on channel 8 controlled the weather. He could probably make some sense of all this! But even though it's freezing rain outside, it's really not too slick. Harley and I just went for our morning walk and we had pretty good traction. The reason why...is just like I said at the beginning. I had on shorts a few days ago...the weather was warm. It was almost 80 degrees...it's 33 right now. But because it was so warm, the freezing rain isn't really penetrating. It's just hitting and not having much of an affect at all, yet.

Our lives are the same as the weather. If we are grounded and have a deep relationship with Christ then when the storms of life come our way...it will hit us but will not have much of an affect. It will not stick. It will bounce off of us because we are God's children. You can rest assured that the storms will come. Some of it may be a test, some of it may just be life. But if you are a "rock" for Christ then not even the powers of hell can defeat you. You have to be strong. The storm will soon pass and if you remained faithful...your relationship with God will be stronger than ever before. Believe in Him...Trust in Him...Lean on Him.

Matthew 16:17-1917

Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. 18 Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.”

Great words Jeff! Thanks for sharing,
Ryan

That is the most heart felt thought I believe I have heard in a while. He is right we are just like the weather. We all have storms in our lives some make it through and some do not. Thanks for sharing that with us

That was so very refreshing to read! I clicked on my favortites to see what weather "stuff" you had posted today and instead got to see a glimpse into what is obviously a "true" man of God's heart! His words are so powerful and true! Thank you for sharing this with Ryan and Ryan thank you for posting it for all who read the blog to be touched as I was!!! David Williams
