How Do Roads Wash Out?

Have you ever wondered how roads "wash out"? It happened last week on Highway 358. While this is not video of Highway 358, it shows you how the road can wash away in less than 4 minutes! Don't underestimate the power of water. It can move dirt, asphalt, and pipes.

Ryan, that's some DRAMATIC footage. I've never seen it actually happen -- just the aftermath. Thanks for posting it. You can see why the NWS coined that term, "Turn Around, Don't Drown."

Some areas in SC yesterday got radar-estimated 10"-12" of rain. No reports of washed out roads however...

Ryan, this is not about washed out roads.....but was there an earth quake in NE Ar. arond 11:30 to 12:15?
We felt shaking in our house here in corning, and could find no reason for it.

That's the first time I've actually saw it happen, That's amazing it can move a road! I'll never drive thru standing water again! (Not That I Do Now :P)
