Here We go Again!

It looks like my outlook for a more active season is becoming a reality! It's going to be rough over the next couple of days as a few waves of severe weather rumbles across Region 8. My greatest concern is the threat of "nighttime" tornadoes. I hope everyone has a weather radio because the TV can't wake you up!!!

Above is the latest information from the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK. Above image shows you the great risk areas, latest radar, and the latest watches. For more from the SPC, check their website by clicking here.

I may not have much time to blog during this event, but here's the latest public information statement from the SPC this morning (Saturday, 9:30am):

...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED FROM FAR EASTERN OKLAHOMA AND NORTHEASTERN TEXAS INTO THE MID SOUTH LATER TODAY AND TONIGHT... THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER IN NORMAN OK IS FORECASTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF A FEW STRONG TORNADOES FROM FAR EASTERN OKLAHOMA AND NORTHEASTERN TEXAS INTO THE MID SOUTH LATER TODAY AND TONIGHT. THE AREAS MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THIS ACTIVITY INCLUDE:
ARKANSAS
FAR EASTERN OKLAHOMA
FAR NORTHEASTERN TEXAS
SURROUNDING THE MODERATE RISK AREA...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FROM NORTHEASTERN TEXAS INTO PORTIONS OF THE NORTHERN MISSISSIPPI RIVER VALLEY AND EASTWARD INTO THE OHIO AND TENNESSEE RIVER VALLEYS. AN UNSEASONABLY WARM AND MOIST AIR MASS HAS EVOLVED OVER THE SOUTHERN STATES WHICH WILL SPREAD NORTH-NORTHWESTWARD TODAY AHEAD OF A STRONG COLD FRONT NOW MOVING INTO THE NORTHERN AND CENTRAL PLAINS. IN ADDITION...A BROAD REGION OF STRONG FLOW ALOFT HAS OVERSPREAD THIS MOISTENING SURFACE AIR OVER A LARGE PORTION OF THE CENTRAL UNITED STATES. EXPECT VIGOROUS THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT TO OCCUR ALONG THE COLD FRONT LATER TODAY AND CONTINUE EASTWARDS AS SUPERCELLS AND SMALL LINES WITH ATTENDANT THREATS OF LARGE HAIL...DAMAGING WINDS AND ISOLATED TORNADOES. MOST INTENSE SUPERCELL DEVELOPMENT MAY BE CONFINED TO FAR EASTERN OKLAHOMA...NORTHEAST TEXAS AND MUCH OF ARKANSAS THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING WHERE THE GREATEST INSTABILITY AND SHEAR WILL BECOME COLLOCATED. HERE...STORMS MAY PRODUCE STRONG TORNADOES AS ACTIVITY MOVES EAST-NORTHEAST THROUGH THE EVENING. VERY LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS CAN ALSO BE EXPECTED WITH THE MOST INTENSE CELLS. THOSE IN THE THREATENED AREA ARE URGED TO REVIEW SEVERE WEATHER SAFETY RULES AND TO LISTEN TO RADIO...TELEVISION...AND NOAA WEATHER RADIO FOR POSSIBLE WATCHES...WARNINGS...AND STATEMENTS LATER TODAY.
