"Too Casual"

As head into the summer months, we may be adding some sleeves to my arms on the Barton's Weather Deck. The bossmen think I'm a little "too casual" when I am outside. I guess they have a good point, but when it is hot outside... people wear short sleeves.... right? My only worries are me sweating to death and an increased dry-cleaning bill.

I try to pick my battles though, so I won't fight this one too much. Maybe when I faint in the middle of my weathercast in July, they'll let me go back to wearing polo shirts. LOL Hopefully, they don't make me wear a tie, that would really not be cool. (pun intended, I guess)

I'm off to Church,
Ryan

When you are outside you should be able to wear short sleeves, its not like your wearing tie dye tee shirts, you are wearing KIAT8 shirts. Once the temps rise to 90+ degrees and you are in long sleeves you need to invite one of those bossmen out to the deck and have them stand there in their office attire.

If they want to be fair about this decision they need to do a poll and find out what the viewers want to see.

1. You comfortable and wearing a nice short sleeve shirt.

or

2. You hot and wearing long sleeves with sweaty pits.

Personally I choose #1

LOL, I personally think you shouldn't fight and let them see "sweaty pits" just one night. After they get that on TV I would suspect you'd soon go back to short sleeves.

P.S. -- I work on the network for a local bank all day long, rarely see a customer and have to wear ties all year long. Fine when your at your desk, not so fine when your cramped under a desk or in a closet working on a computer. :-)

The sweaty pits image in my head is hilarious!

My management is actually pretty cool. If they weren't, I would not have fun with them on issues like this.

I'm not doubting that being more "dressy" would not look better. I'm saying that it will be hot and nasty. LOL

I personally think polo shirts are fine. I know we have gotten very causal in our dress just about everywhere, but you're outside and it's fine. The polo's look nice and have the KAIT 8 logo on them. I don't understand the problem. Management will move on to something else sooner or later. If that's all they have to worry about, I think they have too much time on their hands and should be working harder on something else. Perhaps they will read your blog. I think it also makes you more approachable and someone that you can relate to better. But what do the viewers know?

I'm not sure that folks should trust a weatherman who's wearing long sleeves as he stands outside and tells you about how hot it is. Just sayin'....

I could buy the "too casual" thought if it weren't for the fact that they put you out on the weather deck which is a casual setting. I think you're going to look kind of goofy (no offense intended to you) standing out there in long sleeves. IMO when you do the casual location shots it makes you seem more like one of the people when you're dress more casually. It's not like you're out there in shorts and flip flops for heavens sake.

You can borrow my Pizza is the Best T-shirt if you want. You cannot borrow my Professional Caesar Salad Eater shirt though. ... Not unless you are a professional.

:D

OMG its not like your out there in your swim trunks! I vote casual as well..i mean its fitting for the summer months & the bartons weather deck is a casual setting. Your going to look awfully out of place in long sleeves on a deck in 90+ degree weather.(no offense)

Boycott by wearing your flip flops, lol with your suit of course.

I definitely vote casual! Most of us feel like we know you personally, and seeing you in comfortable attire makes us feel more comfortable. we don't want to see you other there on that hott weather deck sweating just to give a news forcast!!!! Be comfortable, Ryan!!

OK, now that you opened this can of worms...I vote for common sense. If you are outside in the rain, wear a raincoat. If you are outside in the cold, wear a warm coat. If you are outside in the warm or hot sunshine, wearing a short sleeve shirt seems logical.
I love Chris, but when I saw him recently outside in the thunderstorm providing location coverage in his finely pressed shirt and slacks and tie, I thought he looked silly. He should have been in clothes more appropriate for the wet/windy/dangerous weather. You should wear clothes that reflect common sense and common behavior of the audience. I promise you I do not wear long sleeves outside in the warm weather, especially in a casual setting like a deck.

Oh, honestly! There is nothing wrong with polo shirts. Sheesh. "Too casual" would be if you were out there in a tank top, shorts and flip-flops!

Why does it matter what you wear as long as you do your job? As already noted in a previously posted comment, everyone needs to dress for the occasion - I agree that Chris Castleman looked ridiculous out in the "middle of a storm" dressed to kill; what was up with that????
If you dress too casual for the Barton's weather deck, then your general manager was dressed too casual when he was at the Kait8/Oprah Big Give at Highland. He was interviewed on live tv and I don't recall that he had on a suit and tie. Keep up the good work, your attire is not important as long as we are kept informed of the weather!!

Were you trying to make a statement last night when you were on the weather deck with a long sleeve shirt on???? Well, it looked ok, but it was obvious that you were hot and I think that it would of been so much more appropriate if you had been in a short sleeve polo shirt, but I guess you have to do what the boss says!!
