Severe Weather Update, April 9th

Tornado warnings are already happening in SW Arkansas, as of 3:00 PM. So, let's dig into the latest data:
The latest short-range data shows cells forming ahead of the squall line. These are the most concerning storms! A few things to remember about this data:

  • It's a model, so don't get caught up on the EXACT position of the cells.
  • Also, don't get caught up on the EXACT time.
  • This just gives us a general idea of what radar could look like.
The cells ahead of the squall line run the highest risk of severe hail, strong winds, and tornadoes.  We will be watching them closely.

Lastly, I KNOW some of your favorite shows are on TV tonight. Our policy is that we break into programming if there is a threat to life and property in the Region 8 viewing area. We will cover programming if there is:
  • A tornado warning.
  • A tornado threat prior to a warning. Meaning, if we see something while NWS is preparing the warning or if they tell us it is being sent soon, we will go on air.
  • LARGE Hail. If hail is larger than golf balls, I will break into programming. Large hail is dangerous and we will treat it as a dangerous situation.
I HOPE that we will not cover up any programming and that all storms can be handled by running information/radar on the bottom of the screen. We treat everyone equally, so if we have these conditions anywhere in Region 8, we will cover up your favorite programming. I apologize in advance. However, we take weather seriously.

Thanks,
Ryan

Ryan we appreciate you and all the others watching the weather to keep us safe! I personally could care less if a show I am watching gets interrupted by a warning that could help save me and my families lives! Thanks Again!

Why should putting the disclaimer about interrupting tv shows even have to be put on here? Why are people more worried about "their shows" than the lives of people? We live in a selfish world! Ryan, u and anyone else can interrupt anything u want to protect us!

Yes, my very favorite TV shows are on tonight, but people's lives and property are more important!!! Will have to catch them on the rerun... ;)

A tv show is not as important as saving someone's life. Thank you Ryan and all the weather team for your hard work in keeping us safe!

Don't forget us here in Searcy & white County. I lived in Jonesboro until 3 years ago and was spoiled with your communication about impending weather. We tend to get forgotten by LR TV. And, besides you are waaaaay better than they are. I went through one storm with them here and now watch you exclusively. You do a great job!!! Thank you.

I like pizza but sometimes I get heart burn. My wife told me about tums and it works great. I also seen a cow today. That's why I watch the weather on channel 8 becuse if its too stormy to order pizza my wife might have a cow.

Who cares about a TV show! People's lives, my family included. That's what's important! Thank you Ryan for all you do, my family trust you! I'm terrified of storms anyhow, hoping and praying that it doesn't get severe. God bless you and keep us all safe.

Agree with all above Ryan. We were watching you in 06 when the tornado hit Marmaduke and when you told us to take cover, we did and our power went out shortly thereafter and you know the rest, thank you so much!

Don't get me wrong, I love me some Greys Anatomy, but I love my familys life more than anything, so you shouldn't have to apologize or having to bring up anything about interrupting our shows. Lives are far more important than a tv show.
