I Met Dave...

As I said in my previous post, I met a lot of the people that my in-laws grew up around. One of those people happened to be the financial genius, Dave Ramsey. We got to chit-chat for a moment while he visited with my mother-in-law. He seems like a great guy! I'm not sure the full story, but I believe he grew up in the same neighborhood as my in-laws and I also believe that my mother-in-law babysat him or something??? If you are reading this Gracie (or Dave!), maybe you can elaborate in the comments section below. Anyways, it is hard to get me "starstruck", but I must admit that I was excited to meet Dave Ramsey.

I'm back...

Well I was off work and out of town for a few days. My wife's grandmother, Nene, passed away last week and we took a trip to Nashville for the funeral and to be with family. Nene was a great lady and the funeral really revealed how many lives she touched. There were a TON of people! It was nice to meet a lot of the folks that my in-laws grew up around. I have known my wife's family for 10 years now, so I'm about as close (if not closer!) to her aunts, uncles, and cousins than my own! We shared a lot of laughs and stories. It was mentioned at the funeral that death came as a "friend"... That is so true. . . Nene was in a lot of pain and now she isn't.

At work...

Well, I made it to work today. I'm feeling much better, but still have that "yuck" feel every now and then. Luckily my office is far away from everyone! I'm not the type of person to call in sick. In fact, I have never called in sick for a full day (I don't think). I've gone home early or come in a little late, but I have never blown off the whole day since I have been in TV. I have nothing against those that do call in sick, but I can usually suck it up and come on in. It's very rare for me to even be sick though!

Anywho, I'll try to bring 110% tonight, even though I only feel like 85%! Take care and have a great 4th of July if I'm not on here before then....

Fireworks in The 'Gould

We went out tonight and enjoyed the fireworks in Paragould. Not too shabby! By the way, we are feeling much better now. Every now and then I start feeling a little "icky", but compared to yesterday... I feel GREAT! Hopefully these pictures will get you the mood for a Rockin' Independence Day! I hope to see some of you out at Freedom Fest Tuesday night!

Puke Family

Wednesday morning my youngest son started puking. Thursday morning my oldest son started puking. Thursday night my wife started puking. I started feeling the "puke" feeling during the 10:00 news Thursday night. Could you tell? I actually left the newscast early. That's why I was not there at the end. By Friday, we were all sick in bed. None of us really moved all day. It was horrible. It's Saturday now and we are all feeling better. We still feel a little weak, but I guess that is from not eating all day yesterday. I don't wish this on anyone!

Hopefully we will all feel like going to the fireworks in Paragould tonight.

Update

Many of you remember my friend and his wife that were involved in an accident several days ago in Jackson, MS.... Well, the crackhead driver was finally arrested, but NOT because of their accident! You can read more on that here.... The city of Jackson is a joke!

As far as Eric and Christine... They are slowly coming along. She is still at the Rehab Center and will likely not come home for a couple of weeks. Eric is at home, but is still banged up pretty bad. He told me tonight that he is STILL picking glass out of his skin. I can't believe what all they are going through.

Please continue to keep them in your prayers. They have a long road ahead of them... medically, financially, and emotionally. They sound strong though!

DAD

My Dad is great. I don't get to see him as much as I would like because we live 4 hours apart, but we talk on the phone almost every day (sometimes 3-4 times a day). Dad raised us well. I'm not sure how he did it, but he had this odd way of keeping us in line. I was never "scared" of my dad like many sons talk about. I just never wanted to disappoint him. For example, he once told me that he really didn't care when I came home at night, but if I was out past 11:00 or 12:00, then chances are... I was up to no good. That weighed heavy on my mind as I was out running around the streets of Nashville at 10:00'ish.... I often came on home so that Dad did not have to worry. It's that type of relationship that we had... Here are some of the little things that I remember about hanging out with Pops...

-Cheering on DW on Sunday afternoons

-Swimming at the Elks Lodge and going to the Steam Room with "The guys"

-Catching Striper (Rock Fish) on Percy Priest Lake

-Deer Hunting at Land Between The Lakes (he use to make fun of me for shaking so much when I shot!)

-Dad popping my toes when I laid my feet across his lap. (I still do that today!)

-Numerous Titans games!!!

-Vandy Basketball games (I used a Turkey call to mess up the opponents free throws!)

-Working under a house when I worked for his Plumbing Company (it was hard work, but heck... I was hanging out with Pops and getting paid!)

I love yah Dad! I hope you are having a great Father's Day. I wish I could have been there. You are a GREAT dad and an even better Grandfather (P-Sam) to my boys.

Vacation Pictures

I figured I would share some more pictures of the vacation with you now that I am at home. I posted some while I was on vacation during Alberto (see below).

We had a GREAT time! We went down to Prattville, AL for two days on our way to the beach. For those that don't know... Prattville is where we lived when we were in Alabama. We visited with friends for a couple of days, which was an awesome addition to our vacation. I don't have any of those pictures, but if any of our friends care to email me some pictures... I'll post them on the blog! For all of the parents out there... we had a "puke" experience on the way down with one of our boys!!!! 1 hour cleanup time in Birmingham... ARGH!!!! Darn DVD made him motion sick!!!

Anywho, we then hit the beaches of Destin, Fort Walton Beach, and Okaloosa Island! My wife's dad and stepmom live down there, so that is always our beach-of-choice. I think our family is getting too large to shack up with them, so a hotel is in the works for next year. Here are some of the many pictures I took. I only posted a few because I'm going to go to sleep soon. It was a long day of traveling and it is midnight as I type this!!!

Prayers

Please keep Eric Law and his wife Christina in your prayers. Eric is a fellow meteorologist and friend from Raycom sister-station, WLBT, in Jackson, MS. They we both injured in a car accident when a stolen SUV that was involved in a police chase, ran a light, and hit them at 75-90 mph. They are both blessed to be alive this evening.

Eric and I often trade notes about the forecast, graphics, and radar software. There is a good chance that something that has been shown on KAIT (or WSFA) came from a disscussion Eric and I had.

Please keep him and his wife in your prayers. They have a long road ahead of them as they recover. You can see more about the accident at www.wlbt.com

Watching Alberto

It looks like Alberto will be making landfall just East of where we are... Today we went out to the beach to watch the rough surf. The water was churning, the sand was blowing around, and we occasionally had some squall lines come through. Here's a picture of my youngest son and me taking in the view...

Needless to say, the red flag was waving. We did not even get in the water, but we did do some playing in the sand at the base of that red flag that reminded us that Alberto was kicking up the sea!

The biggest problem of the day on the beaches of Destin were the rip currents... We obeyed the signs!

We still had a great time today. While the Tropical Storm is a nuisance, it is kind of cool to see.... Especially when you are not "too" close.
It did not stop anyone from digging in the sand!
And it did not stop anyone from dumping the sand on their head!
I hope you enjoy the pictures. I bet when we go out the beach tomorrow... The waves will be REALLY rough! Before I go, I had to throw in a pic of my sister-in-law. She gave me a hard time for never putting her picture on the blog! Here she is waiting in the Van while my son and I watching a wind surfer braving the rough water! That dude was nuts!... I'm Off Work!

I'm going to be off work for the next several days. Meteorologist Sarah Tipton will be covering my shifts... As far as blogging, I may not be around much. LOL

I still believe that something will form the Tropics before I get back to work. If that happens, you can get the latest info by clicking the hurricane on the left side of the page near the bottom or by watching K8 News.

Uh Oh!

This computer model has a Tropical Cyclone heading into the Panhandle of Florida early next week! This could mess up some vacation plans for some people!

Right now, this is the only computer model showing this scenario. It's also the Canadian Model... What do they know about the Tropics?!?!?! LOL

Today is my last day of work before my vacation begins. WOO0HOO!!!! I'll be back on June 19 or 20... (I'm not sure which???)

Charity Softball Game

Thank you so much Region 8!!! We had a great turnout for the Charity Softball Game this past weekend! We raised over $1500 dollars for the folks in Marmaduke that were hit by the tornado. I must admit that I was only expecting a few hundred dollars to come from this event and all of you from Region 8 really stepped up to the plate. Here are some of the images from the event in case you missed it on the news....

Friday Night Update...

Well the little dude got to feeling better after going to the doctor on Wednesday. His "Sissy" came in town and cheered him and his brother up! We had a great time while my sister was in town! We finally got a chance to hit the pool! We had a great time until the storms rumbled in....
It was a very warm day until the storms cooled us off... After being in the water, it was COLD. That's hard to believe considering we were all sweating in the 90s just an hour prior to getting cooled off! Little dude thought the towel was good idea!

My youngest son is sick... I'm not sure what is wrong with the little dude, but he does not feel good! Tired, coughing, crying, and fever.... Hopefully he gets better soon. I feel sorry for the little guy!

Memorial Day

On this Memorial Day I can't think of anyone else accept my brother and sister-in-law and nieces (above). He is in Iraq, they are in Washington, and we are here.

I have always supported the war in Iraq and still do, but I'm tired of him being over there. He has not even come home yet and already has orders to go back. It brings tears to my eyes as I type this....

I just pray that everyone stays strong...stays focused... and knows that God is always watching out over his people. He has a plan that is often different from our own plan.

On this Memorial day, I pray that everyone who has family in the battlefield and everyone that is in the battlefield will feel that peace.

Congrats' & Farewell

It's time to say congrats' and goodbye to one of our Storm TEAM members at K8. Ron Smiley accepted a job at WDSU in New Orleans. Ron will be missed here in Region 8, but he has an awesome opportunity in the Bayou that can't be passed up. He has a big task ahead of him! He has to keep people's mind at ease during a potentially active hurricane season in the wake of Katrina. I have had my fair share of hurricane coverage down at WSFA, but Ron has a MUCH larger responsibility in the Big Easy. I'm sure he will make us proud down there. Who knows... we may even get him to do some live reporting for us if a hurricane threatens! Feel free to say your farewell in the "comments" section below. Great Day Off!

I had a GREAT day off! I did not even get called in for the isolated severe storms. I wish some of that rain had hit me. It went all around me and all I got was a few sprinkles! The temperature at one point hit 98 degrees according to our minivan. That's why we played in the sprinkler!!!!!
The clouds started bubbling up and the lightning got a little to close for comfort.... We decided to go inside!

Baseball fight

So, I see on the news last night that there was a huge fight at the Cubs/White Sox game. Here's my problem... If I got in a fight in the stands I'd be arrested and fined. If I got in a fight at work, I'd be fired. What do these guys get? A suspension...maybe a fine? A filthy rich person getting fined is nothing....

Isolated Storm!

I hate it when I go for an isolated chance of a storm and that storm pops up right over the most populated area of the viewing area! The forecast was still right and that storm will be gone in less than an hour, but it still bugs me for some reason! I'm not sure why...

Everyone wanted to dry out and it looks as if they will get their wish. Here are the projections for the total precip. to fall over the next five days.... notice that most of the action will be to our northeast. I hope we don't fall back into a dry spell! VOTE VAUGHAN 2016

I may run for president one day. I have never been a big fan of the Democrats and lately, Georgy Bush is not really been making me happy either... Maybe I just need to run!

Would I make a good president? I'm not sure... If I run, I am NOT going to put up any signs. I am SO SICK OF THE ELECTION SIGNS on every corner!!! I wish the election would just be over so that we can take the signs down!

I'm a little tired of seeing the same commercials time and time again too. I like the money that it brings to the station, but since I work there... I see them over and over! They work though.... I'm sure everyone knows who is running for Circuit Judge... don't we? That's what matters I suppose.

Anywho, I thought of all of this after seeing the Gore video posted below and my observations as I drove home yesterday.

Sweet! My email is back up and going! I'm not sure if Raycom fixed it or if someone called Al Gore, but the problem has been resolved! WooHoo....

Happy Mother's Day...

I hope all of the mothers (and future mothers) had a wonderful day! I did not get to hang out with my mom today because she is in Nashville, but I did get to hang out with the mother of my boys. My wife is the best! She is the most caring woman in the world for my boys (and me).

I hope you had a great day Sweetie! You are a the best wife, mother, and all-around person anyone could ask for... You are a great Christian woman! The boys and I are so blessed to have you in our life!

Mom, I hope you had a great day too. I know you read the blog everyday... heck you might even read it twice a day! You had to deal with one heck of a boy as I grew up... Hopefully I don't get paid back as I raise my boys! Thanks for always being there for me!

The Mall...

Slacker...

I've been a slacker lately! There has not been a whole lot to talk about.... I do have some big news though... We hired a new meteorologist here at KAIT. SHE starts here in a couple of weeks. In the next couple of days I will tell you more about her and what brings her to Region 8. I will tell you that she grew up watching K8 news!

In other news, I have added something that I have left off my blog for most of it's life... I added a comments section! I did this so that you guys can generate things and ideas for me to blog about... What's going on out there? What do you guys and gals want to chat about???

This Past Weekend...

We went to Nashville this past weekend to see our family and to go to the Country Music Marathon. My sister took some video of my oldest son dancing...my youngest son just sat around wondering what he was doing... Here they are in my sister's backyard!
